ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we describe the epidemiology and burden of CSA, review criminal justice and victim-focused efforts to address CSA, and describe efforts to prevent CSA. CSA is, of course, a global problem. However, we focus primarily (although not exclusively) on U.S.-based efforts to address CSA in part because therein lies our expertise and also because the majority of research on this topic has been conducted in the United States (e.g., see Pereda, Guilaer, Foms, & Gomez- Benito, 2009), and because the breadth of U.S. criminal justice policies designed to address CSA far exceed those of other countries (e.g., see SMART, 2014).
